
Kailua Kona, often referred to as Kona is located on the Island of Hawai’i in Hawai’i County. The population as of 2000 was almost 10,000 residents. Much of the economic growth is dependent on tourism and is the center of commerce in West Hawai’i. Kona is also the official site of the annual ironman World Championship triathlon, as well as the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament. Kona is also the only place in America that grows and harvests coffee beans, which also lends its hand in the economic growth of the city.
Most residents who live in Kona have a beautiful ocean front view. Because must of the land is reserved for resort style living, there aren’t many traditional neighborhoods in the area. There are however, plenty of things for families to do and see. Other then water sports, you can visit the Historic Kona Inn, one-of-a-kind shops, or visit La’aloa Bay Park, which is also known as Magic Sands or White Sands Beach.
